ABOUT THE RETREAT

Chakrasamvara Drupchö

with Venerable Drupon Rinchen Dojree Rinpoche

Fall 2026 | Austin Ratna Shri

Austin Ratna Shri is deeply honored to welcome Ven. Drupon Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche, our Spiritual Director and revered yogi in the Drikung Lineage, to lead a Chakrasamvara Drupcho, a rare and precious gathering in the Drikung Kagyu tradition of Vajrayana Buddhism.

A drupcho is an intensive multi-day group accomplishment practice in which practitioners assemble to engage in the complete liturgy of a yidam deity. Through meditation, visualization, mantra recitation, ritual offerings, music, and prayers, the sangha practices together continuously to cultivate wisdom and compassion for the benefit of all beings.

In the Drikung Kagyu lineage, Chakrasamvara (Tib. Khorlo Demchok) is regarded as one of the principal Highest Yoga Tantra deities. The practice embodies the inseparable union of great bliss and emptiness—the direct realization of the awakened nature of mind. Within the Kagyu schools, Chakrasamvara is closely connected with the lineage of Tilopa, Naropa, Marpa Lotsawa, Milarepa, and Gampopa, and has been carefully preserved and transmitted through generations of realized masters. The Drikung Kagyu tradition maintains these transmissions as an essential part of its meditative heritage.

According to the Vajrayana tradition, Chakrasamvara tantra originated from the enlightened teachings of Buddha in his tantric aspect and was later transmitted through the Indian mahasiddhas before being brought to Tibet. These teachings became central to many Kagyu lineages because of their emphasis on transforming ordinary experience into the path of awakening through profound meditation and direct realization.

A Drupcho is more than a ceremonial gathering. It is a powerful collective practice in which the energy of the entire assembly is directed toward the cultivation of awakening. Practitioners engage in extensive mantra recitation, elaborate offerings, visualization of the enlightened mandala, and prayers dedicated to the welfare of all beings. The collective nature of the practice is traditionally understood to amplify its beneficial effects and strengthen the connection between practitioners and the lineage.

Within the Drikung Kagyu tradition, participating in a Chakrasamvara Drupcho is believed to bring many benefits, including:

  • Deepening one's connection with the Chakrasamvara lineage and its blessings.

  • Accumulating merit and wisdom through collective practice.

  • Purifying obscurations and habitual patterns that hinder spiritual development.

  • Strengthening compassion, bodhicitta, and devotion.

  • Supporting the realization of the inseparability of bliss and emptiness as presented in Highest Yoga Tantra.

  • Creating favorable conditions for peace, harmony, and the benefit of all beings through the dedication of the practice.

Whether participating for the first time or continuing a long-standing Vajrayana practice, this gathering offers a meaningful opportunity to immerse oneself in authentic Drikung Kagyu liturgy under the guidance of an accomplished lineage holder.

Additional information regarding registration, prerequisites, empowerment requirements, accommodations, and the daily schedule will be announced as the event approaches.
